America the Beautiful Film

America the Beautiful Film

The Bonner County Historical Society is hosting a presentation of the film From Sea to Shining Sea: Katharine Lee Bates and the Story of America the Beautiful, which explores the life and legacy of the poet, educator, and social reformer who wrote this song for our nation. It explores her life and the song through the lenses of justice, women’s history, and civic ideals. While “America the Beautiful” is often treated as a patriotic anthem, it is perhaps one of our most misunderstood national songs. As Brandi Carlile recently observed before performing it at the Super Bowl, it is “more of a prayer than a boast.” The film invites audiences to reconsider the song as a civic vision — one rooted in moral courage, inclusion, and democratic responsibility." The 40-minute film will be followed by a post-screening discussion with director John de Graaf.

Museum Expansion Open House

The Bonner County Historical Society and Museum invites the community to an Open House at the Museum, located at 611 S. Ella Avenue in Sandpoint. This special event is an opportunity for community members to tour the Museum facility, learn about plans for upcoming updates, renovations, and an exciting expansion project, and share their ideas and feedback about the future of the Museum.

Members of the Museum’s Facilities Team will be on hand throughout the evening to answer questions, discuss project details, and gather community input. The Bonner County History Museum is a place where Bonner County’s stories live. As we plan for the future, we want our community to be part of the conversation—after all, this is your museum.

Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome, and no RSVP is required.
